Food Security: Improvised Storage needs

Government has failed to notice the sad state of food storage systems in the country, about 12% of the agricultural produces are eaten up the rodents. The silos, other storage units, god-owns etc are not maintained well due to which there is a considerable loss in edible goods at all the stages of supply chain be it farmers’ god-owns, wholesale dealers’ god-own or FCI silos. Also lately many branded players like More, Reliance etc have entered the public distribution chain mainly in cities due to which the competition amongst the middlemen have increased a lot which is leading to the unequal distribution of commodities as well as unchecked price tagging. Government has to take steps to make sure that the margin over production and distribution is fixed and the competition in the distribution system doesn’t corrupt the same.
